This weekend, the cormo fleece came out of its bag to be washed.
Oh so soft and squishy.
While Kristine was plugging away at dyeing yarn for Black Sheep, I started to prep the fleece for its first bath of many.
Cormo fleece in lingerie bags.
Into the pot!
There isn't any hot water at the studio so all the water had to be heated up. Thankfully, Kristine as a massive propane burner that gets the water nice and hot in not too much time.
Boil, boil, toil and trouble...
Our little fleece was dirtier and greasier than we thought. I think we did 5 baths over Saturday and Sunday and it's still not quite clean yet. Oh well! Once we get back from Black Sheep, it's back into the pot it goes.
Yum!
Sheep Poop Soup!
Saturday was World Wide Knit and Public Day. Initially, I was not going to do anything for the event as I was feeling a bit lazy. An early call from Kristine changed that and all of a sudden we were off to the SFMOMA!
Here's Kristine with "Femme au chapeau" by Matisse.
Adrienne with Rothko's No. 14.
Here are some other shots. Kristine even managed to get some spinning in!
I was hiding behind my camera most of the time, but you can find another version of the day here.
The Yarn Carrier, oh I mean The Flower Carrier

I think a print of this one might need to be added to my home.
And by two people at the same time! Thanks Michelle and Marlowe!
The rules of the game get posted at the beginning. Each player answers the questions about themselves. At the end of the post, the player then tags 5 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know they’ve been tagged and asking them to read your blog. Let the person who tagged you know when you’ve posted your answer."
1) What was I doing 10 years ago?
I was in between undergrad and grad school for the summer. I ended up working two part-time retail jobs because no one wanted to hire and educated person for only 2 months. One of the jobs let me start collecting all the dishes, pots, and pans for living on my own for dirt cheap/free. I still have all the pans!
2) What are 5 things on my to-do list for today?
Finish work for the day, get groceries, pick up my camera, start laundry, finish plying the cursed BFL, cuddle with my Ruby dog. Oops, that’s 6!
3) Snacks I enjoy:
dark chocolate, dark chocolate, etc.
4) Things I would do if I were a billionaire:
Pay off our bills, make sure the parents, in-laws, brother, and grandmas were set up to live good lives, travel the world, start a spinning/knitting collective/compound so everyone can live and spin/knit together and not have to worry about the real world.
5) Places I have lived:
Waseca, MN
Owatonna, MN
Mankato, MN
Waverly, IA
St. Paul, MN
Roseville, MN
Minneapolis, MN
Berkeley, CA for 10 months and counting
6) Jobs I have had:
fast food restaurant, office work for my dad’s department, convenience store clerk, various retail in viarious types of positions, intern for non-profit, independent consultant, disability/FMLA claims manager
7) Bloggers I am tagging who I will enjoy getting to know better:
Oh, this is a hard one....
and
This weekend past, Kristine hosted a studio warming party at her new digs in ActivSpace. On Saturday I was only able to catch the tail end of the festivities, but got to stay the whole day on Sunday.
There was some spinning going on and a lot of sharing and comparing of spindles.
Kathleen with her new Golding Ring Spindle. I love the knot work design!
My Avi in action.
Poor little Cleo was overstimulated by all the fun. She was bound and determined to greet each person who came and at the end of the day and she was quite tired at the end. I heard that there was some drool involved.
Kristine was gifted with some lilacs, which are quite hard to find in California. I do miss them! I think I was smelling them every 5 minutes or so.
And of course there was yarn and fiber to purchase!
Finn roving in limited edition colorways.
Flax/Wool roving
Shetland Roving
Merino/Silk roving
My favorite shirt!
The East Bay was host to open studios all weekend long so I had the chance to wander to other spaces by Kristine's. In one, I found something that had to come home with me. The colors were pulling me in and I could not resist!
My new project bag!
I am getting to like Sunday mornings a lot. Ted made me breakfast again this past weekend.
Yummers! An egg scramble with broccoli, tomatoes, and cheese and toast with jam!
I sure am going to miss this for the next three weekends. Ted heads to Ireland early Saturday morning and I will be all by myself for a couple weeks and a few days. I guess I am going to have to just settle for cereal on the weekends. I am too lazy to cook for just me.
Here's a shot of what is being called my "Senior Picture". That would be the Cormo fleece in my lap. I think we were on a bit of a wool hight at this point.
Taking photos of something in motion can be a bit of a challenge. Especially if it's something that moves as quickly as a flyer on a spinning wheel. When I was at Spinning at the Winery, I experimented with the "fast motion" on my camera to see what I could get.
Ashford Joy
Lendrum #1
Louet Victoria (yes it was moving, really!)
Uhhh #1
Schacht Matchless
Roberta Electronic
Uhhh #2 (I think it's a Kromski)
Lendrum #2 (with fast flyer)
I think I like the Lendrum #1 the best with the focus on the bobbin and a little blur of the flyer around it. Uhhh #2 comes in second.
The day started rather dreary and overcast, but I was not going to let that hinder my fun, for it was Spinning at the Winery day!
First, I packed up my bag of projects. I am not sure I brought enough to do.
Once I was packed and ready to go, I headed to Kristine and Adrienne's where I was greeted at the door by Cleo, the wonder Daschund.
Can you see those little forehead wrinkles?
After giving me the mandatory greeting, Cleo got down to business looking for her treat. Unfortunately, I did not pack one for her that morning. I tried to convince her there was nothing to be found, but she through all pockets and holes needed to be inspected just in case! I don't know what disappointed her more, the lack of treats or the fact that she wasn't able to go on an adventure with us.
Kristine, Adrienne, and I piled into thee car and we were off to Livermore and the Retzlaff Winery. Weee!
Just look at all those spinners. Seriously, I have never seen so many in once place before!
As we were strolling around visiting the vendor booths and the wine tasting room, we cam upon this fellow. There were two of them strutting about. They seem to know the exact time that lunch was being served and made themselves known to everyone in the potluck line.
Speaking of potluck, can we say YUM! So much food to choose from!
Adrienne tearing into ther croissant.
What did we drink with our lunch you ask? Well wine of course!
Retzlaff is an organic vinyard and the bottle we had was quite nice. I loved the fact that the label was done by hand.
After we ate and drank our fill, it was was time to spin.
Kristine with her Bosworth.
Adrienne with her spindle she made herself.
Here's what I worked on with the Avi. It's a wool and flax blend from Kristine. I do not think she has it in her shop yet.
I wasn't sure it would work on the Avi since he's a bit on the heavy side, but it worked out pretty well. The wool staple length matches the flax length and I have not found it to be differernt from spinning just wool so far. I am not sure who soft this will turn out so I bag may be knit out of it when I am done.
Not everyone spent the day spinning. A few were weavers too. A couple was working on their navajo rugs.
The detail on them was amazing.
Now this is something I do not think I have the patience or fingers for.
Some one working with her Chakhra.
I did break down and picked up a couple of things, mostly tools.
1 yard niddy noddy by Magpie Woodworks in cherry
and a spinner's yarn gauge from VIP fibers, both purchased from Carolina Homespun.
And....
Wullie!
Hand carved and real wool coat. His little legs are made of screws wrapped with spun wool.
He jumped into my camera bag and refused to get out. Really!
I also broke my yern diet. But it's not with me so I don't think it counts until it comes home....so we will not talk about it right now....I will just say that it's soft, squishy, and crimpy and will not come home until is has a bath. It may have come from something that looks like one of these. My will power was so weak!
I have some other pictures to share, but they will have to wait for another day....
